EducationGraduate of University of South Florida with a B.S. in Microbiology and a B.A. in Chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry. Currently a graduate student in Microbiology at Virginia Tech.
Highschool GPA: 5.2
B.S. in Microbiology at University of South Florida
Currently Earning a B.A. in Biochemistry at USF
Currently doing research with the department of Cell Molecular and Microbiology (CMMB) of MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus)
ExperienceI have worked with many other students, helping them understand the essential concepts of Biology and Chemistry, and often become a reliable source to most other students in my class. I'm a recent graduate, and have been a researcher with the CMMB at USF and currently have work to be published on multiple projects. I am a PhD student in microbiology at Virginia Tech.
I was in the AP program throughout highschool, and passed all of the AP exams I have taken including: AP Biology (4), AP Chemistry (3), AP Calculus (AB) (4), AP World History (4), AP Language (3) and AP Literature (4). I earned a 32 on the ACT and a 1300 on the SAT.
I've always had an ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms. As the first person in my family to go to college, and with my current research, I'm used to having to explain such concepts to the average person if I want them to be able to understand me, and what exactly I do. As a current university student as well, Tutoring offers an excellent opportunity for me to earn some extra cash and still be able to maintain my demanding class and research schedule.
I've completed all the necessary requirements for my Microbiology major (with the exception of an exit humanities course) and am currently working on an additional biochemistry degree before I move on to my graduate work in the future. As a result, I have taken many of the science courses that many students have been "weeded" out of, such as: General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Statistics, Calculus, and introductory biochemistry, as well as much more in depth coursework.
I've been currently working on research involving the highly drug resistant MRSA, and my work with the bacteria is currently on the road to being published, along with an extensive genomics project working with genetic sequences of gammaproteobacteria and alignment software.
I've previously had the pleasure of working with multiple organizations, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Rays in their shops at Tropicana Field and Raymond James.
I have previous leadership experience with my Highschool Band program where I was counted on a section of 50+ people to ensure good performance and showmanship.
HobbiesI'm an Avid video gamer, though shooters aren't really my style. I love Adventure games, as well as RPGs. If they're into WoW (World of Warcraft) I can relate as I spent some time with the game (though now, that's over and I have my time back).
When I can find the time, I love to read non fiction science texts as well to further my understanding of the world around us. I like fiction as well, and several of my favorites are fiction, but finding the time to everything else is hard enough.
I'm a musician as well, and record my own music. I play Bass, Guitar (Not very Well), Trombone and Euphonium.
I've been going to the gym since august this past year and I love it.
